Looking Ahead: Abacus Robotics Will Continue on the VEX Pathway

2026-07-03

Announcement

Abacus Robotics will continue coaching teams using the VEX Robotics platform

Many families in our robotics community have been following recent changes in the competitive robotics landscape, including the separation between VEX Robotics, Inc. and the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation (RECF). We want to share where Abacus Robotics stands for the upcoming season.

For the 2026–27 season, our IronMechs high school teams will continue on the VEX Robotics pathway. Our teams will compete in V5RC Override, registering through events.vex.com and pursuing qualification to the 2027 VEX Robotics World Championship.

We've made this decision after carefully reviewing both options. Continuing with VEX gives our students:

  • Continuity in the game, programming environment (VEXcode), and engineering platform they've trained on
  • A clear pathway to the VEX Robotics World Championship, which has been our long-standing competitive goal

We are actively monitoring developments — including the Virginia event calendar, online challenges, and the announcement of the 2027 VEX Worlds venue and dates — and will keep our families informed as more details are confirmed.

Our focus remains where it has always been: building strong engineers, strong teammates, and strong leaders, one season at a time.
