Starstruck | 2016-2017
VEX Robotics Competition Starstruck is played on a 12’x12’ square field configured as seen above. Two alliances – one “red” and one “blue” – composed of two teams each, compete in matches consisting of a fifteen second autonomous period followed by one minute and forty-five seconds of driver-controlled play.
The object of the game is to attain a higher score than the opposing Alliance by Scoring your Stars and Cubes in your Zones and by Hanging Robots on your Hanging Bar.
This was our 2nd year doing VEX. We attended 4 events, all of which were tournaments. During tournament play, it was very hard because we only had 2 team members making it hard to do many things at once.
Our season ended at states but we still got the Build Award.
Competitions and Notable Moments
This was our first tournament of the season. In robot skills, we only got 4 points. At the end of qualification, we were 4-2 and in rank 11.
In alliance selection, we were picked by the 3rd seed team. We beat the 6th seed but we were eliminated by the 2nd seed in the semifinals.
At the end of the tournament, we got the Design Award qualifying us for the State Championship.
This was a mixed tournament (middle and high school). We still couldn’t hang in skills leaving us with 3 points. We ended up in 17th place with a 3-3 record.
We were picked by the 7th seed alliance and knocked out by the 2nd seed.
This was our last tournament before States. This was also a big tournament with 50 teams. In skills, we finally got the hang which gave us 12 points. At the end, we were in 26th place with a 3-2 record.
We were picked by the 2nd seed as a 2nd round pick. We beat the 7th seed, but lost to the 3rd seed.
In this tournament, we got our highest skills score which was 18 points. We also got 3 points in programming skills. During some of the matches, our base would die for some time causing us to lose the match. In one match, our robot hung but at the end of the match lift arm came back down costing us the match. We were ranked 27th at the end with a 4-5 record. We were not picked in alliance selection.
